Wicked Wheel: Go for a ride

PANAMA CITY BEACH — although Wicked Wheel just opened last month on Hutchison Boulevard, it already feels like a well-established landmark, especially during Thunder Beach. “It’s kinda like what Hard Rock has done for music, but for cars and motorcycles,” said Dan Baird, Wicked Wheel’s Creator of Chaos, who came up with the concept. “I’ve been a car and motorcycle guy for years.” The theme bar and restaurant, the latest venture from the Pineapple Willy’s family, is open for lunch and dinner, serving Southern comfort food — fried chicken, catfish, shrimp and burgers. The 3/4 pound burgers come with two sides, like almost everything else on the menu. “The burgers look big in the picture (menu), but that doesn’t really do them justice,” said M.G., one of three waitresses named Michelle. Where else can you get a pepper jack and bacon topped quarter pound burger riding on top of a bed of tater tots with a Rice Krispies treat on the hood of a ’57 Ford Fairlane Hot Rod? The kids’ meal at Wicked Wheel is available for kids of all ages in a paper take-home car. Ages 2 to 92 will enjoy seeing museum quality finds including a 2006 Harley Destroyer, a 1923 Ford T-Bucket, 2004 Custom Built Pit Bull Chopper and gas pumps from the ’20s to ’50s. some of the bikes might be on the road again one day, though now they are free of fluid and batteries. If you want to find out more about what you see, take a look at the fact sheet in one of the table’s buckets, designed by the maintenance guy/artist “Fuzzy.” This place is cool, down to the details. The ceiling fan features a Springer Headlight off a motorcycle. You can grab a seat at one of the motorcycles welded into the full bar. Bikes were sacrificed from family and employees, such as in-house electrician Jack Daniels, as well as a 1996 Harley Sportster that was a display for Orlando Harley Davidson in Walt Disney World. The metal bar seats and benches were fabricated and hand built by Jamey Jordan with The HandMade Seat Co. in Meridian, Miss. The bar’s focal point features a gas pump to house the restaurant’s signature drink, Gasoline Tea, a hopped up Long Island Iced Tea. Tool boxes have been turned into liquor stands above the bar, with glasses hanging underneath. This is a family place, with a Game Room in the back next to the gift shop. A Big Block Motor, which was on display at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, hangs above the TVs in the dining room — a sign of more to come. The Big Block Bar, “an adult playground,” will be built in the lot next door, with plans to break ground in August. The one-of-a-kind bar will be open in the evenings with entertainment on two stages and a full kitchen. The big block motor will be the bar’s center show piece, and every seat at the bar will idle. “It will feel like you’re on a hot rod,” Baird said.

That truck, which had damage to the rear right, was found Thursday evening on Cameron Street in Harrisburg, Pa.Deardorff was not licensed to drive because of a suspension related to a drunken-driving charge, Davis said.He pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in September 2011 and was sentenced in November to three days to six months in jail, according to Cumberland County (Pa.) court records. Deardorff had another conviction for driving under the influence in that county in 2010, the records said.Deardorff was authorized to drive the truck by his employer, the company that owns the truck, according to Davis. Police did not name the company, which has been cooperating in the investigation, she said. She said Deardorff was not on duty for the company at the time of the crash. The truck is to be transported from Harrisburg to Chambersburg, Davis said. Police were obtaining a search warrant to go through the truck, she said. The accident occurred when a truck pulled out of Overcash Road and crossed U.S. 11, heading diagonally north to enter the intersection of Social Island Road, police said.As the truck crossed U.S. 11, it collided with Monninger’s motorcycle, traveling south on U.S. 11, police said. the truck continued west on Social Island Road after the crash. The truck stopped briefly before continuing on to Social Island Road, Sgt. Randy Kane said at Friday’s news conference. On Thursday, state police scoured the accident scene for evidence and conducted a helicopter search of the local area, looking for the box truck, Tooper Ed Asbury said.“we believe that the person may have either worked in the area or have local knowledge of these back roads,” Asbury said at the time.Police also are seeking several witnesses they say left the scene before being interviewed by police.“we really would like them (witnesses) to come forward and give us their story, because at this point every little bit helps,” Asbury said.He said the witnesses don’t have to worry about being charged with anything.“they are under no requirement as a bystander or a witness to render aid. we just want their help,” Asbury said.As the search continued, the family and friends of the accident victim lamented his loss.Rod Thomas of Chambersburg co-owned the Custom Cleaning Co. with Monninger.“It was a business relationship, but it was also a (22-year) friendship. we probably spent more time together than we did with our spouses, because we worked together every day, and we talked about everything under the sun,” Thomas said Thursday.“he liked to laugh, but he had a sarcastic humor about him. he liked to tell jokes,” Thomas said. “he loved his wife ... he loved his wife so much. Everyday they would call each other at lunchtime.”He was a great husband and father to his three children, Thomas said.Monninger was a 1993 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School.Principal Edward Rife said two of Monninger’s three children attend the high school, son, Andrew, and daughter, Rachel.“we are thinking about him and praying for the entire family,” Rife said Thursday.Monninger also is survived by his wife of 18 years, Maria, according to his obituary. If anyone has any information about the incident, they may call state police at 717-264-5161 or Franklin County Crime Solvers at 717-263-3000.Staff Writer Roxann Miller contributed to this story.

Harley-Davidson, Inc. : H-D Screamin? Eagle? Team is Ready to Race at Gainesville

H-D Screamin' Eagle? Team is Ready to Race at Gainesville MILWAUKEE (March 5, 2012) - The Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle?/Vance & Hines drag racing team will debut restyled Harley-Davidson? V-Rod? motorcycles when the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series hosts its first Pro Stock Motorcycle event of the season at the 43rd annual Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals, March 8-11 in Gainesville, Florida. Rider Ed Krawiec, the reigning 2011 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion, returns to racing action along with teammate Andrew Hines and both riders look to deliver another title for Harley-Davidson fans and the team. Krawiec scored four final-round wins in the 2011 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle series in a season of consistency that saw him clinch his second world title with a second-round win at the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at Pomona, California. The championship is the fifth won by the Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines team in 10 years of NHRA competition. "The competition gets tighter and tighter in this class, which makes for great racing but also means the Harley-Davidson team will need to be on its game at every event this season if we want to repeat," said Krawiec, who also won the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle championship in 2008, and is hoping to add to his back-to-back 2010 and 2011 season-opening wins at the Gatornationals with a rare three-peat. "I plan to keep riding my own race and hope we can continue the momentum that carried us to the end of last season." Hines, who won twice in 2011 and has notched three championships with the Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines team (2004-06), is ready to get back on the track. "I have not popped the clutch on one of these V-Rod bikes since the last round at Pomona," said Hines, who defeated Krawiec in a final-round match to end the 2011 season with an all-Harley final. "We are going to do some testing and then head to Gainesville, and I'm anxious to try out some of the new parts we've been developing in the off-season. I'm looking forward to having a lot of fun racing this year." Matt Hines, older brother to Andrew and also a three-time NHRA champion (1997-99), returns as crew chief for the Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle?/Vance & Hines team. The Pro Stock Motorcycle class will open the season under the same rules package in place at the end of 2011. The series will compete at 16 events in 2011. V-Rod Racers Restyled The team's Harley-Davidson V-Rod motorcycles have received a significant re-style for the first time since the team began NHRA competition in 2002, according to Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Kris Schoonover. "The goal was to make the drag racing motorcycles look more like the current production Night Rod Special motorcycle," said Schoonover. "The biggest change is in the shape of the rear fender, although the front fender is a little longer and is now more similar to the part on the production motorcycle." The new bodywork is finished with a fresh paint scheme designed by Paul Martin, Harley-Davidson Manager of Styling and Graphics at the Willie G. Davidson Product Development Center. For the first time, the team's two motorcycles will have a different appearance on the track. Krawiec's V-Rod is black on the top half and silver below, while the V-Rod raced by Hines will have those colors reversed. The graphics are detailed in orange and silver and will match new graphics for the Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines transporter and team uniforms. in addition, new rider's leathers were designed by Karen Davidson, Creative Director of H-D MotorClothes and daughter of Chief Styling Officer Willie G. Davidson. Visit the Harley-Davidson Racing Experience The Harley-Davidson Racing Experience will be on display at each 2012 National Hot Rod Association? Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event, offering fans an opportunity to see new Harley-Davidson production motorcycles and participate in interactive riding and racing simulations with a chance to win a $100 Harley-Davidson Gift Card daily in the Drag Race Challenge. Fans can also enter the Harley-Davidson Choose Your ride sweepstakes to win one dream motorcycle at the end of the season. Comanchero member Giovanni Focarelli shot dead in latest Adelaide bikie shooting

Giovanni Focarelli, right, with father Vince outside the Adelaide Magistrates Court on January 12 this year. Source: The Advertiser FOLLOW how the Focarelli bikie hit story dramatically unfolded through the day. ------------------- 3.15PM UPDATE STREET gang supporters of slain New Boys gang member Giovanni Focarelli have indicated they want to take revenge against his killers, posting a message on a Facebook site that "no stone will go left unturned". The New BoyZ Support Crew Facebook site is one that Giovanni often contributed to and friends of the 22-year-old - who was ambushed with his father Vince Focarelli in a suburban Dry Creek street about 9.45pm last night - have started to pay tribute to the shooting victim. The full message, posted about 2pm, reads: "Why do bad things happen to good people? No stone will go left unturned. RIP Giovanni". The first tribute messages to the son of the former head of the Comanchero Motorcycle Club Adelaide chapter were posted on the site early yesterday morning. 3PM UPDATE POLICE Commissioner Mal Hyde has called for new legislation and harsher court sentences to halt the rise in bikie violence. Mr Hyde said the culture of violence and code of silence within bikie groups had made current legislation difficult to enforce. "We are looking for new legislation to help us in the future," he said. "We need legislation that can help us put them (bikies) before the courts and we need courts that can help us put them away. "The reality is violence, a wall of silence and intimidation is all part of a bikie's persona ... it creates a great barrier (for police). "When you have these offences happening in a way where you intimidate witnesses, it makes it much more difficult to legislate." Mr Hyde said police needed more help from the courts to lock bikies away once they had been arrested. "The courts are very patchy in terms of the significance of the sentences for firearms offences," he said. "The use of firearms is a key part of the culture and personality of bikie groups. That's part of what we need to deal with. "every now and then you will see a reasonable sentence but more often you will see suspended sentences and good behaviour bonds. That doesn't take us very far at all to protecting the community." Mr Hyde said police were particularly concerned with two streams of violence engulfing bikie groups in South Australia - the feud between Vince Focarelli and the Comancheros, and the feud between the Finks and Hells Angels following the shooting of Finks member mark Sandery's 11-year-old son. Mr Hyde said police were "keeping an open mind" on the motive for last night's shooting. "at this stage we are exploring all motives, including whether or not it's ongoing tension within the Comancheros, whether it involves another bikie group (or something else)," he said. "The circuit breaker (to end the violence) would be to apprehend those involved and put them before the courts." 2.30PM UPDATE POLICE Commissioner Mal Hyde has briefed Government ministers on the activities of outlaw motorcycle gangs in the wake of the Focarelli shooting. Premier Jay Weatherill has also revealed he was briefed by police on Sunday night as the events surrounding the latest bikie shooting unfolded. Mr Weatherill said tackling the bikies was the most important work the Government was doing as part of its law and order agenda. "The commissioner has acknowledged (to Cabinet) that SA has been the leader in tackling these gangs," he said. Mr Weatherill said intelligence showed there were 274 outlaw motorcycle gang members in SA and of them, a substantial number were before the courts. He said the gangs causing the grief at the moment were the Comancheros, the Finks and the Hells Angels. "They have a combined membership of 122 and 63 of them are before the courts at the moment," mr Weatherill said. "so the police are very active in seeking to disrupt the activities of the members of these gangs." He said mr Hyde had told Cabinet he was satisfied with the resources he had received "and we will give him whatever support he needs including taking the steps to get legislation before Parliament that he believes is necessary to further disrupt the activities of these gangs". "obviously the concerns that arise through their criminal activities such as drug trafficking but of particular concern today is the propensity of these groups to resolve their disputes using violence," the Premier said. "another element of their conduct is their deliberate and public flouting of the law. "All of those things create enormous anxiety in the minds of members of the community." 12.45PM UPDATE MURDERED former Comanchero bikie Giovanni Focarelli will be buried within 24 hours of the release of his body, as per Muslim custom, a court has heard. Focarelli's friend and associate, Michael Sfyris, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court this morning. He is jointly charged with Giovanni Focarelli and his father, Vince, with an alleged Melbourne Cup Day affray at the Highway Hotel on Anzac Highway. AdelaideNow understands the men are no longer members of the Comanchero outlaw motorcycle gang, and have not been for about a month. Last week, Sfyris lodged an application with the court, seeking to vary his bail conditions. Sfyris - manager of the Ink Central tattoo parlour on Hindley St - wanted the court to delete a clause that banned him from speaking with Giovanni Focarelli, who was an employee. Today, Steven Georgiadis, for Sfyris, said his client no longer pursued that application. "unfortunately, Giovanni Focarelli has passed away," he said. "In that regard, we are wondering if, with all respect, this court will entertain an application to vary mr Sfyris' bail to allow him to attend the funeral." He said no funeral arrangements had yet been made. "In saying that, we understand that it is traditional in the Muslim culture that the funeral take place within 24 hours (of death)," he said. "We're not sure whether police are releasing the body or not." Magistrate Paul Foley said the request "sounded reasonable". However, Emmanuel Athans, prosecuting, opposed the application. "I cannot agree to a request to attend a funeral while not knowing how long it will be, what date it will take place, where it will be held and who else will be attending," he said. Mr Georgiadis said his client only required permission to attend the mosque, and would continue to abide by the conditions of his bail. "one of the current bail conditions is that he is not allowed to associate with Vince Focarelli," he said. "We want to avoid an interpretation issue as to what might - in the eyes of police - constitute 'assocation' at a funeral." Mr Foley said he would consider the application again once arrangements had been made for the funeral. He gave Sfyris permission to have the matter called on at short notice, agreeing to make himself available to hear it. Sfyris did not comment as he left court. 12:15PM UPDATE RESIDENTS of Flame Ave, Dry Creek, say they heard up to five 'pops' in quick succession about 9pm. The arrival of police revealed the sounds' significance. Resident of 13 years Peter Frost said he heard five quick shots. "I wasn't sure if it was gunshots or what it was," he said. "it was like pop, pop, pop, pop... I just though it was fireworks or something. "from what I gathered later on, it (happened) down the end of the street, near the intersection (of Flame Ave and Churchill Rd North)." Mr Frost said police were at the scene until about 4am and said they spoke to him several times. "They said there had been a shooting, a murder," he said. "It's not good in our neighbourhood." Detectives and STAR Group officers scoured Flame Ave and a neighbouring reserve for clues. Officers searched through bins and on the roof of a rugby union clubhouse and used metal detectors. Sandra Basilico said she heard four shots out the front of her house before hearing a car speed off. Her son, Steven, 15, said the ordeal was "frightening". "it sounded like four gun shots then I heard someone scream," he said. "it was pretty scary. We just went inside and sat tight. it was pretty frightening...I didn't come outside." Steve Muller said he heard the gun shots and it then went "dead quiet" until police arrived about half an hour to 45 minutes later. "these bikies, let them do what they want to do but do it anywhere else but our streets, it's rubbish," he said. "They are making themselves out to be gansters and heroes ... it's not on. "Go out in the middle of nowhere and knock each other off but don't do it in our streets, it's silly, there are kids in the street." 11:45AM UPDATE ESCALATION of violence among outlaw crime gangs shows anti-bikie moves have failed, the Opposition says. The State Government is currently working on the second phase of its anti-association laws after the High Court ruled elements of its initial push unlawful. The first phase of anti-bikie laws, penned by former attorney-general Michael Atkinson, were found to undermine the independence of the courts in a split decision. Attorney-General John Rau is now working on a new package to be presented in Parliament earlier this year. Changes include giving the court power to "declare" a gang a criminal organisation, based on evidence supplied by police. Control orders could then be issued against members, banning them from associating. Opposition justice spokesman Stephen Wade today said the Government had talked tough but failed to deliver effective measures for eradicating outlaw gangs. "Labor's hapless tough talking on bikies has made it the best recruitment agent the gangs have ever had," mr Wade said. "Labor's fruitless tough talking has elevated outlaw leaders like Vincenzo Focarelli to rock star status. "New laws will only ever reinforce well-established laws and policing practice. We need aggressive, targeted law enforcement against known criminals." Mr Wade said the Government and police needed to make use of existing laws including road traffic controls, public safety orders and financial reporting requirements to deliver convictions. "Labor has lost court challenges, lost valuable time and lost control. The gangs have been emboldened and have grown," he said. Mr Wade said the Government's pledge to bulldoze bikie fortresses had not resulted in any demolitions. AdelaideNow is seeking comment from mr Rau. 9AM UPDATE: BIKIE lawyer Craig Caldicott told ABC Radio this morning that Focarelli had alienated large sections of the bikie community. "I've only obtained information from the media and from other people that indicate the father had a falling out with a member of the Hell's Angels on a personal level," he said. "They had been friends and suddenly there was a falling out. "Out of the genesis from that, Focarelli appeared to try and protect himself and form the New Boys then tried to brand himself a Comanchero - and has managed to alienate large sections of the bikies fraternity." Mr Caldicott said it appeared that Focarelli had also made enemies with the Comancheros - and said he was not a member of the club despite claiming its presidency. "No he isn't," mr Caldicott said when asked if Focarelli was a member of the Comanchero gang. "(His presidency) is a self-appointed title as far as I'm aware." Despite the rift between rival bikie gangs, mr Caldicott speculated that the shooting may have been over a drug deal. "The fact that it was at an oval at Dry Creek would tend to suggest it being a drug deal going wrong," mr Caldicott said. "it may not have been necessarily anything to do with bikies, rather other people that mr Focarelli has managed to alienate over the years."
